44 + -0.45, A Poem (First 36 Lines)

Part 1

  • I hope to…maintain the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.
  • I can’t read half enough…the more one reads the more one sees we have to read.
  • Yet arms, I would beg leave to add, should be the last resource, the dernier resort.
  • A man’s intentions should be allowed in some respects to plead for his actions.

  • Truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains taken to bring it to light.
  • Children should be educated and instructed in the principles of freedom.
  • We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal;
  • The advancement and diffusion of knowledge is the only guardian of true liberty.
  • I call it truthful hyperbole. It’s…innocent…exaggeration—a very effective form of promotion.

Part II

  • Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal;
  • Every day is lost in which we do not learn something useful.
  • If a nation expects to be ignorant and free…it expects what never was and never will be.
  • Facts are stubborn things; and…they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.

  • Nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.
  • The means of defense against foreign danger…become the instruments of tyranny at home.
  • We are right to take alarm at the first experiment upon our liberties.
  • I don’t want to use the word ‘screwed,’ but I screwed him.
  • That’s what we should be doing.

Part III

  • Be polite to all, but intimate with few.
  • Don’t talk about what you have done or what you are going to do.
  • He who permits himself to tell a lie once finds it much easier to do it the second time.
  • Follow truth wherever it may lead you.

  • He who knows best knows how little he knows.
  • The advancement and diffusion of knowledge is the only guardian of true liberty.
  • I know words, I have the best words…but there is no better word than stupid.
  • Sorry losers and haters, but my I.Q. is one of the highest -and you all know it!
  • You know, I’m, like, a smart person.

Part IV

  • Religion itself may become a motive to persecution & oppression.
  • In all places, pride & indolence…ignorance, & servility…superstition, bigotry, & persecution.
  • Where an excess of power prevails; No man is safe in his opinions…or his possessions.
  • These observations are verified by the Histories of every Country ancient & modern.

  • In all cases where a majority are united by a common interest…the minority are in danger.
  • I was gonna hit…a very little guy…so hard; he wouldn’t know what the hell happened.
  • Why do I have to repent, why do I have to ask for forgiveness if [I’m] not making mistakes?
  • When people wrong you, go after those people…it is a good feeling; I always get even.
  • Believe me… I would bomb the shit out of them.
